To achieve stable caulking work by solving problems damaging a side wall of a cavity and causing a caulking failure of a barrel.
The caulking device 20 is used in a wire caulking process wherein a terminal 1 is housed in a cavity 11 of a connector housing 10; a wire is inserted between a pair of barrels 5 erected from both side edges of a bottom plate 4 of the terminal; a barrel caulking part 21 is lowered from its upper side to enter sharp parts 21a projecting downward from both ends of its undersurface into spaces H between the barrels and side walls 12 of the cavity; and, by further lowering the barrel caulking part from that state, the wire is caulked and fixed by gradually bending the barrels by a shaping recessed curved surface 21b on the undersurface of the barrel caulking part. The caulking device is provided, integrally with or separately from the barrel caulking part, with cavity expansion parts 22 for pressing and opening the side walls of the cavity outward before the sharp parts reach tips of the cavity side walls with the lowering of the barrel caulking part.
