When chrominance signals of a color still picture including desirable spatial color variation is inputted in time series, a color variation display processing part 11 performs a averaging process for adjacent pixels, a process for smoothing on a time base, etc., under the control of a color variation control part 12 and generates spatial images at respective points of time in sequence according to the chrominance components at the respective points of time. The sequentially generated images are outputted through a color variation information storage part 13. For example, the images are outputted to a display device and then a moving picture which varies in color in time series can be displayed.
