An SBW-ECU (shift by wire-electronic control unit) 50 executes a program including a step S108 for setting a D (drive) position as a target position if a shift position is requested to switch (Yes in S100) and if it is an initial switch after engine start (Yes in S102) and if the target position is not the D position (No in S104), a step S112 for controlling an actuator to achieving the target position, a step S126 for notifying abnormality if an actual shift position does not correspond with the target shift position (No in S114), a step S116 for resetting the target shift position based on a shift signal if the actual shift position corresponds with the target shift position (Yes in S114) and a step S118 for controlling the actuator to achieve the reset target shift position.
