The suture with a barb or barbs includes: an elongated body; and at least a single barb extending from the elongated body, the elongated body including at least the single barb that defines a recess or recesses adjoined to at least the single barb. According to one embodiment, the suture with a barb or barbs includes a projection extending around the recess that is defined by the elongated body, and further includes a plurality of projections extending around recesses that are defined by the elongated body.
