Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a character input device and its method for a small portable terminal which easily selects a character to be inputted.
SOLUTION: This character input device for a small portable terminal consists of an operating part 10 which comprises a direction inputting part 11 that indicates characters and symbols shown at a peripheral part, a direction detecting means 12 which detects a direction in which the part 11 is moved and a switch 13 which detects that the part 11 is moved for a fixed distance or more from the center, a processing part 20 and a displaying part 40. When the part 11 is moved in the direction of a target character, the means 12 detects the direction, the part 20 which receives the detected direction information produces the display signal of a corresponding character and the part 40 shows the character. The switch 13 is operated and the character is decided by further moving the part 11.
