A character information reproducing part 2 reproduces images and sounds expressing a character according to character information stored in a character information storage part 1. In a character information updating part 4, the executed states of contents such as the recording processing and reproducing processing of the contents by a processing part 3 are detected and, according to the detected executed states, the character information in the character information storage part 1 is updated. Also, the contents processing in the processing part 3 is varied according to the updated character information. For example, such variations occur that the copying of the contents is allowed according to the growth of the character or a reproducing quality is improved.
