Title:
DEVICE AND METHOD FOR TESTING OPTICAL PULSE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3465733
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve accuracy in measurement by providing an output/input part with a directional coupler and providing an optical fiber for the length of Tv/2n [(v) is velocity of light and (n) is the refractive index of the optical fiber] between the directional coupler and a connector node.
SOLUTION: An output/input optical fiber 12 longer than Tv/2n is installed between a directional coupler 11 and the connector node. The coupler 11 is composed of an optical fiber or waveguide coupler or an acoustic optical switch, etc. An optical pulse generated at a light source part is guided through the output/input optical fiber 12 to an optical fiber 8 to be measured and a reflected backward scattered light generated at the block of the fiber 12, reflected pulse generated at the node with the fiber 8 and scattered light generated at the block of the fiber 8 are guided to a photodetector 3. At the photodetector 3, the photoelectric converted signal is analyzed by a signal processing part 4 and displayed as an OTDR waveform in the case of an optical pulse testing device having a display part 6. Thus, the conditions at the near terminal part of the optical fiber to be measured and the propriety of connection conditions can be discriminated.
