PURPOSE: To easily package and bind long-sized materials even if their outside diameters are different by a method wherein only top one material of outer packaging materials is received and transferred to above a long-sized material to be packaged having the one side located in a predetermined position, the outer packaging material is made to rotate with the one side held against the long-sized material and is wound around the long-sized material to be temporar ily secured thereto.
CONSTITUTION: Only top one of outer packaging materials 13a transferred to a predetermined position is received and transferred to above a long-sized maternal 14 to be packaged having the one side located in a predetermined position by separating and transferring devices 15 and 16. The one side of the outer packaging material 13a thus transferred is pressed against the long- sized material 14 by a pressing device 17. In this condition, the outer packaging material 13a is made to rotate relative to the long-sized material 14 and is wound around the long-sized material 14 by an outer packaging machine 18 be temporarily secured thereto. By this method, any long-sized material 14 can be packaged and bound by selecting an appropriate outer packaging material 13a from the ones of a plurality of different specifications.
