PURPOSE: To automate the pressing of a metal structure intermediately so processed as to have a special section into an outer casing by holding a honeycomb structure with a retaining head, and pressing the honeycomb structure into the outer casing after removing a jig from the honeycomb structure with a jig removal cylinder.
CONSTITUTION: Cylinders 8 are actuated to hold both sides of a honeycomb structure A in such a way as keeping retaining heads 6 in contact with both sides thereof. Then, a jig removal cylinder 16 is caused to advance and made continuous to jigs C mounted on the structure A, and the cylinders 16 are caused to retreat, thereby removing the jigs C from the structure A. Subsequently, a pressing cylinder 12 is actuated to lower a presser head 11 for pressing down the structure A, thereby pressing the structure A into an outer casing B via a pressing guide 9. The holding cylinders 8 oscillate right and left to cause the retreat of the retaining heads 6, before interference takes place between the heads 11 and 6 during the pressing process.
