Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for preventing a secondary battery from becoming dead and a method for preventing the secondary battery from becoming dead, which prevent the secondary battery from becoming dead by cancelling cut-off of a dark current at an appropriate timing.SOLUTION: A device for preventing a secondary battery from becoming dead, includes: a cut-off means (latch relay 18) which cuts off a dark current flowing through a load and/or an electronic control unit; a detection means (battery sensor 14) which detects a residual capacity of the secondary battery 13; and a control means (micro-computer 21) which executes a control for cutting off the dark current flowing through the load and/or the electronic control unit by the cut-off means in a case that a vehicle is brought into a parking state and, thereafter, the residual capacity detected by the detection means becomes less than a prescribed threshold. In a case that an electric current flowing through the load and/or the electronic control unit is cut off by the cut-off means, when an indication of starting an engine of the vehicle is performed, the control means cancels the cut-off of the dark current by the cut-off means after the engine starts self-actuated rotation by virtue of combustion.
