PURPOSE: To obtain a thin strip of metal of homogeneous structure and uniform thickness and width by providing cooling headers which inject the mixed mist of water and air and wipers which remove the moisture contents thereof to the moving cooling surface of cooling bodies which quickly cool molten metal.
CONSTITUTION: Molten metal 4 is ejected by a nozzle 3 from the inlet side of twin rolls 1, 2 which revolve oppositely by making linear contact with each other, whereby the molten metal is quickly cooled and solidified to a thin film 4'. Roll cooling headers 5, 6 are provided on the roll outlet side. An air header 15 sending air to nozzles 7, 8 from air holes 17 and a water header 16 sending water to the nozzles 7, 8 from water flow inlets 18 are provided to the headers 5, 6. The mixed mist of air and water is ejected to the rolls 1, 2, whereby the rolls 1, 2 are cooled. The moisture stuck on the roll 1, 2 surfaces is removed with wipers 9, 10 for removing cooling media. If necessary, further air headers 13, 14 are provided to get rid of the residual moisture completely. Thereby, the rotating outside temperature circumferential surfaces of the rolls 1, 2 may be maintained always at a constant temperature.
