PURPOSE: To effectively obtain reformed gas useful suitably for fuel cell by preventing falling of pellets due to vibration and to disperse gasified gas uniformly by heating and reforming the gasified fuel passed through a reactor contg. pelletized catalyst supported by a porous material.
CONSTITUTION: A catalyst layer 5 comprising pelletized Pt, Rh, or Cu catalyst, etc., is packed in a reactor 4 of a fuel reforming device 30, and the top and the bottom of the catalyst layer are supported by a porous material 13 comprising glass wool, steel wool, porous ceramic, sintered metal, etc., to construct the reactor 4. Methanol/water fuel mixture fed from a fuel feeding nozzle 2 is evaporated by directly heating a fuel evaporator 1 with a burner 3, and the evaporated fuel is fed to plural reactors 4 provided vertically along the annular periphery of the evaporator 1 and is dispersed uniformly through the porous material 13. Simultaneously, heating gas is dispersed with a dispersing plate 12 provided with many through holes 12a having controlling function for heating to heat the reactor 4. Thus, the evaporated fuel is converted at 150W500°C to reformed gas consisting principally of gaseous H2, which is collected in a collecting section 6 at the top, discharged from a discharging port 7, and fed to a main body of a fuel cell.
