PURPOSE: To improve heat efficiency, to miniaturize a device, and to obtain reformed gas consisting principally of H2 by passing heating gas obtd. by heating and reforming evaporated fuel in a reactor through a passing layer for the gas comprising porous ceramic and discharging then the gas.
CONSTITUTION: Methanol/water fuel mixture fed from a fuel feeding nozzle 2 is evaporated by directly heating a fuel evaporator 1 with a burner 3 or a fuel reforming device 30. Simultaneously, the evaporated fuel is fed to plural reactors 4 provided vertically to the upper surface of the evaporator 1 along the annular periphery of the evaporator with a catalyst layer 5 packed with pelletized catalyst supported by the top and bottom glass wool layers 13, and the reactor 4 is heated by the heating gas dispersed with a dispersing plate 12 having many through holes 12a to convert to reformed gas consisting principally of H2. Then, the reformed gas is allowed to pass through a layer 15 for passing reformed gas, and collected in a collecting section 6, and fed to a main body of a fuel cell from an outlet 7. On one hand, the heating gas is allowed to pass through a gas passing layer 14 comprising porous ceramic to keep the heating chamber at high temp. and discharged to the outside from a gas discharging hole 11.
