To provide a device for smelting metal ingot capable of suppressing surface defects, and also to provide a method for smelting the metal ingot using the same.
A hearth type electronic beam melting furnace includes: a vacuum chamber; a means for feeding a metal material; an electronic beam irradiation means for melting the metal material; a hearth for holding a melt; a mold into which the melt is poured; and a means for pulling out the ingot formed in the mold. A melt dispersion ladle for feeding the melt to the mold while the melt is once held and is being dispersed is interposed between the hearth and the mold. In the method for smelting the metal ingot using the device for smelting the metal ingot, the melt of the metal material that is melt and generated in the hearth is fed to the melt dispersion ladle and is once held in it, and the melt is injected to the mold through the melt dispersion ladle.
