PURPOSE: To provide the device which multiplies the frequency of a light wave based upon a synthetic resin composition so that an electrode or other means supply differently oriented molecules adjacent areas, provide a device which converts red light into blue light by an effective method with high productivity as the main purpose of this invention, and provide a simple and effective method which manufactures the device.
CONSTITUTION: This device multiplies the frequency of a light wave while equipped with a nonlinear optical medium 11 of oriented synthetic resin composition for guiding a basic light wave while generating a 2nd higher harmonic, and the medium constitutes a waveguide in spatially periodic structure for phase matching. The oriented resin composition actualizes alternate areas which has mutually different secondary (nonlinear optical) magnetization rates. The said structure can be manufactured by the effective method by exposing the synthetic resin composition to patterned radiation.
