PURPOSE: To separate and remove only the moisture from radioactive waste by providing a radioactive waste contact chamber communicated with one side of a porous hydrophilic inorg. film and a vacuum chamber communicated with the other side and providing a heating means to the radioactive waste contact chamber.
CONSTITUTION: A porous hydrophilic inorg. pipe 1 has, for example, 10mm outside diameter, about 300mm length and about 2μm pore diameter and allows selective transmission of water. A cooling pipe 8 which extends from a cooling chamber 7 and is wound on a vacuum pipe 4 cools and condenses the steam flowing through the pipe 1 and the inside of a pipe 4 by a refrigerant. A condensate reservoir 9 stores the condensed water. The vacuum chamber 2 is communicated with one side of the pipe 1 and a vacuum pump is communicated via a pipe 4 to this vacuum chamber 2. The radioactive waste contact chamber 5 is held at a specified temp. of about 60°C by a heating jacket 10 provided around the chamber.
