To facilitate a structure analysis of the whole image and an axial direction by performing stereoscopic visualization, to spend display time in an extent of real time, to improve interactive operability and to extract a format characteristics.
Volume data having information on a three-dimensional lattice point is preliminarily downloaded into a volume memory through a communication line. A distortion image generating part generates a two-dimensional distortion projection image on a base plane according to the volume data by a ray casting method and once stores the two-dimensional distortion projection image in an image memory. A distortion correcting part maps the distortion projection image of the image memory to be projected on an assumed screen. A display format designating means performs interactive selection and designates an image display format on the screen to expansion/cutting off, etc. An image displaying means stereoscopically displays an image selected by the display format designating means by monocular display or compound eye display. The whole devices are united into one to be able to be of a thin planar shape.
