Abstract:

PURPOSE: To easily obtain a polymer article useful for a mechanical use and a display use by forming a layer of a compsn. containing divinyl or a dialkenyl diacetylene having a liquid crystal phase on a substrate and polymerizing the same by an image system.
CONSTITUTION: A compsn. containing divinyldiacetylene or a dialkenyldiacetylene represented by the formula (wherein R1 and R2 are each H, cyano, a halogen or a 1-3C alkyl; R3 and R4 are each H, cyano, a halogen, amino, an aryl or a 1-6C alkyl; and R5-R6 are each H, an alkyl, an aryl, an aralkyl, an alkaryl, or the like) having a liquid crystal state (e.g. p-ethyl-phenyl- divinyldiacetylene) is formed on a substrate. Subsequently, an electric field and/or a magnetic field is pref. applied to this layer and polymn. is started by the irradiation with actinic rays or heating. This layer is polymerized in a liquid crystal state by an image system to produce a polymeric article.
