In a main control unit 40 of an image forming apparatus, a transmission control unit 41 controls transmission to a center device of first control data representing a failure or the like of the image forming apparatus; a receiving control unit 42 controls reception from the center device of an identification ID for specifying a part of second control data that is determined in the center device to be necessary for diagnosing the failure or the like based on the first control data; a control data acquisition unit 44 acquires the part of the second control data specified by the identification ID from a control data storage unit 43; and the transmission control unit 41 controls transmission of the part of the second control data to the center device. Thereby, the center device diagnoses the failure or the like based on the part of the second control data.
