To establish the diagnostic method of skin diseases using specimens obtainable in a noninvasive and simple method by using ratios between the abundances of interleukin-1 (IL-1) and interleukin-1 receptor antagonist (IL-1ra) in corneum specimens as an indication of the extent of a disease.
Corneum specimens are prepared from a region (a) suspected of contracting a skin disease and a sound region (b) corresponding to the suspected region or located in the vicinity of the suspected region. Next, the abundances of IL-1 and IL-1ra in each of the prepared specimens are measured. Then a ratio between the abundances of IL-1 and IL-1ra in the specimen derived from the region (a) is compared with a ratio similarly obtained in the specimen derived from the region (b). As a ratio in a region lesioned by a skin disease, i.e., the value of IL-1/IL-1ra or IL-1ra/IL-1, indicates a significant difference from the value of a ratio in a sound region, it is possible to diagnose whether a subject to be examined has contracted a skin disease or not.
