Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a high grade molten metal by subjecting the surface, with which molten metal or solidified layer is brought into contact, of a crucible, etc., made of graphite to coating with specific diboride.
CONSTITUTION: At least the surface, with which molten metal or solidified layer is brought into contact, of a crucible or mold made of graphite is coated with diboride. As this diboride, a diboricle represented by a chemical formula MB2 (where M means metallic element and B means boride) is used. Further, coating thickness is regulated to 10-400μm. By this method, an ingot having superior casting surface can be stably cast for a long time independently of the kind of casting metal.
