PURPOSE: To greatly suppress impact noise, wear and deformation at the time of punching by providing a means for fixing a driven side member to a main driving side member by a clamp in the state in which the clamp is driven by a means for driving the clamp to the clamping side.

CONSTITUTION: The clamp 31 is driven to an unclamping side by the means 34 for driving the clamp at the time of adjusting a die height (h). A slide 4 is then advanced and retreated by an expanding and contracting mechanism 30 to adjust the die height (h). The clamp 31 is driven by the means 34 to the clamping side to fix the driven side member B to the main driving side member A of the mechanism 30 by the clamp 31. There are, therefore no idle spaces at all in the mechanism 30 after the adjustment of the die height (h) and the integrated spacing of the of a mechanism 8 for driving the slide is decreased. The impact noise, wear and deformation to be generated at the time of punching are greatly suppressed by this device.
