Number information entered by an operator from a ten-key 3a of an operation section 3 is discriminated by a system controller 1 as to whether a telephone number or a copy number, based on a reference digit number set by a revision knob 3c in advance, and whether the function set at present by a changeover button 3d is discriminated as being proper with respect to a discriminated telephone number or a copy number. When an improper function is discriminated, a message 'improper function settting' is displayed on a display section 4 by an operation section controller 2 by a command of the system controller 1, the operator recognizes the necessity of function changeover immediately by the display of the display section 4, operates a changeover button 3d to set the function correctly, so as to conduct facsimile operation or copying without malfunction and uses an inhibit button 3b to inhibit discrimination, depending on the line condition and the copy number so as to use the machine over a wide operating environmental conditions.
