Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the efficiency of an eight-to-fourteen modulation(EFM) with a simple configuration.
SOLUTION: Received m-bit data are coded by a channel code in (n-d+1)bit. An (n-d)th bit of a 1st channel code and a (d+1)th bit of a 2nd channel code in two consecutive channel codes are used for discrimination bits and the two consecutive channel codes are connected by adding link bits in (d-1)bits depending on d, k conditions. In the case of violating the d-condition, the bit of the link bit and the bit adjacent to the link bit are converted and in the case of violating the k-condition, the sign of the discrimination bit is replaced with the sign of the link bit. Furthermore, the link bit to link the received two consecutive channel codes and the discrimination bit are discriminated for the state and the discrimination bit or the bit adjacent to the link bit is changed for the sign depending on the d, k conditions and link bit is separated and the data are decoded into substantial data in m-bit.
