Abstract:
PURPOSE: To allow azimuth-recording of data at a speed rate lower than a standard speed rate of input data onto a tape without causing waste in tape consumption.
CONSTITUTION: When transport packet data of the MPEG 2 are recorded, a tape speed is selected to be 1/2 or 1/4 depending on a bit rate of a program with respect to recording of data at a standard tape speed. Heads A, B have a different azimuth angle and placed at the same height closely on a drum. In the case of 1/2 tape speed, the head A is used for recording for a period when the heads A, B scan a tape and the head B is used for recording for a succeeding scanning period. Since the recording is conducted by the head A or B alternately, an azimuth angle of adjacent tracks is differentiated even in the case of a tape speed of one over an even number so as to allow azimuth- recording.
