Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a new compound, a dimethyldecanedial useful as an economical synthetic intermediate for dimethyldecanedioic acid which is a component for synthesizing excellent hydrolysis-resistant polyurethane resins.
CONSTITUTION: A dimethyldecanedial of formula I (one of A and B is methyl, and the other is H). Namely, 3,8-dimethyldecanedial or 3,7-dimethyldecanedial. The compound of formula I is obtained by hydroformylating a diolefin of formula II with the mixture gas of CO and H2 in the presence of a catalyst especially comprising a rhodium compound and a phosphorus compound. The reaction is preferably carried out in a temperature range of 60-150°C, especially 90-130°C, in a pressure range of 10-150 atmospheric pressure, especially 60-120 atmospheric pressure. The dimethyldecanedial of formula I can be oxidized to give a dimethyldecanedioic acid of formula III.
