PURPOSE: To obtain a composition having remarkably improved selectivity to cultured crops and improved herbicidal activity, by using a nitrodiphenyl ether-type or cyclic imide-type herbicide mixed with a substituted nitrogen- containing heterocyclic compound.
CONSTITUTION: The objective herbicidal composition is composed of (A) a nitrodiphenyl ether-type herbicide [e.g., 2,4,6-trichloro-1-(4-nitrophenoxy)benzene] or a cyclic imide-type herbicide [e.g., N-(4-chloro-2-fluoro-5- propargloxyphenyl)-3,4,5,6-tetrahydrophthalimide] and (B) a compound selected from pyridine derivative of formula IWformula III (R3 is aldehyde, carboxyl, pyridyl, etc.; R4 is halogen, alkyl, NO2, OH, etc.; n is 0W5), 2,2'-dipyridyl- disulfide, various isomers of phenanthroline in respect of the position of nitrogen atom and phenanthridine.
