Abstract:
PURPOSE: To prevent a glow plug from being thermally damaged, while maintaining the degree of freedom for the layout of the glow plug via the avoidance of interference with an intake port or the like, and concurrently prevent an adverse effect on the generation of a swirl due to the interference of a flow from the intake port with the glow plug.
CONSTITUTION: This direct injection type diesel engine is, for example, four- valve type, and the intake side thereof has a slanting arrangement of double tangential ports. A glow plug 9 is inserted from the intake side and laid so as to be superposed on the lower side of a rear intake port 4 near the end opening 4a thereof. Also, the forward end of the plug 9 is directed toward a combustion chamber recess. The injection angle of the rear intake port 4 is made larger than the injection angle of a front intake port.
