PURPOSE: To execute a reducing reaction with high efficiency and uniformly, by charging a metallic oxide, a reducing agent and a submaterial into a rotary kiln in a specified ratio, and forcibly mixing, moving and heating in a state that said ratio and the quantity of materials remain kept constant.
CONSTITUTION: On the whole inside circumferential wall of a long shell 1, a refractory material 2 is formed, and on its surface, a spiral projection 5 of a forward screw is formed as one body to a discharge side 4 from a material charging side 3, and a spiral groove 7 for sufficiently storing a mixed body 6 is formed between the projections 5, and on the discharge side 4, a burner 8 is provided projectingly toward a rotating shaft 9. From the material charging side 3 of a rotary kiln constituted in this way, the mixed body 6 consisting of a metallic oxide, a reducing agent and a submaterial of a specified ratio is charged continuously, the mixed body 6 of a prescribed quantity, which has been charged into the bottom part of the spiral groove 7 is stored without being mixed mutually with the mixed body of other spiral groove 7, is moved in the direction as indicated with an arrow 10 along the projection 5 by rotation of the kiln, and is mixed in a suitable ratio so that the reducing reaction is maintained efficiently by heating of the burner 8.
