To provide a directivity variable array antenna having superior characteristics, such as electric power resistance, low distortion and low loss.
The directivity variable array antenna 100 is provided with a radiation element 11a, to which a feeding power supply is connected; a parasitic radiation element 13a energized with mutual coupling by the radiation element 11a; and a variable reactance circuit Z loaded to the parasitic radiation element 13a. The variable reactance circuit Z includes a variable capacitance capacitor Ct, between the input terminal and the output terminal, of which a plurality of variable capacitive elements C1 to C5 using thin film dielectric layers are connected in parallel, in terms of DC and in series in terms of high frequencies, and the dielectric constant of the thin film dielectric layers being variable with a voltage applied to the thin film dielectric layers. The reactance value of the parasitic radiation element 13a and the directivity of an exciting antenna 11 are controlled, by utilizing a rate of change in the capacitance of the variable capacitance capacitor Ct by a bias signal, and the directivity variable array antenna with superior characteristics, such as electric power resistance, low distortion and low loss can be obtained.
