Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge bulb having simple construction and processes permitting an arc tube unit to be fixed and supported to a plug member without causing breakage such as cracking of a shroud tube.
SOLUTION: After a base end portion a of the arc tube unit 12 is inserted into a glass tube 50 previously fixed to an insulating plug unit 14, the shroud tube 18 and the glass tube 50 are adhered and fixed to each other in the state of the insertion amount of the arc tube unit 12 being adjusted so that a distance L between an optical reference plane Po of an insulating plug unit 14 and the front end position of a rod electrode 26B of the arc tube 16 is a set distance Lo. Thus, the arc tube unit 12 can be fixed and supported to the insulating plug unit 14 by the simple construction and processes without causing conventional breakage such as cracking of the shroud tube 18 with the fastening force of a metal band.
