A discharge ignition device 1 comprises: a subtrigger electrode system 12 for generating the breakdown between electrodes when a high voltage is applied; a high-voltage application means 3 for applying a high voltage between the electrodes of the subtrigger electrode system 12; and a main trigger electrode system 11 that conducts electricity by the breakdown generated in the subtrigger electrode system 12 and generates the breakdown between the electrodes. In the discharge ignition device 1, the breakdown generated in the subtrigger electrode system 12 is utilized for generating the breakdown in the main trigger electrode system 11.
