Abstract:
To provide discotic liquid crystal membrane exhibiting spontaneously uniform homeotropic orientation with wide area in the temperature region ranging from low temperatures near room temperature to high temperatures near the melting or decomposition point and developing no orientation defects or the like.
The discotic liquid crystal membrane contains a porphyrazin-based homeotropic orientation compound of chemical formula(1)( wherein, R- is a straight-chain, branched or cyclic hydrocarbon group or poly(oxyethylene) group; and -M- is a bivalent metal group ), spontaneously exhibiting homeotropic orientation in a filmy form.
