Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent processes from being concentrated on the same magnetic disk drive group by rearranging logical volumes and moving data on a disk controller side autonomously according to logical volume information after setting alterations.
SOLUTION: When logical volumes needs to be extended for a capacity increase, a magnetic disk drive group is newly added and this magnetic disk drive group is set as the volume with a new logical volume number from a host device. The logical volume arrangement control part 6 of the disk array subsystem 13 receives logical volume information on a file attribute, the total number of logical volumes, and correspondence between the logical volumes and magnetic disk drives. Based on this logical volume information, the arrangement of logical volumes which is already set by the host device for the magnetic disk drive group is changed on the disk array subsystem and data movement is also performed.
