To provide a disk like magnetic recording medium wherein electromagnetic transducing characteristics, particularly high-density recording characteristics are improved and excellent characteristics can be exhibited in all sizes of the medium, when reproduction is performed by using an MR head.
The disk like magnetic recording medium having a magnetic layer formed by dispersing ferromagnetic metal fine powder or ferromagnetic hexagonal ferrite fine powder in a binder on a substrate of polyethylene terephthalate is characterized in that the magnetic layer of the disk like magnetic recording medium has ≤5 nm center plane average surface roughness, the thickness of the disk has ≤3% fluctuation and the relation represented by 0.3≤Y/X≤1.0 between the whole thickness X μm and the outside diameter Y mm of the disk is formed.
