CONSTITUTION: A dispersed liquid crystal light shutter in which a liquid crystal phase is effective to scatter incident light in the absence of an applied field and responsive to an applied field to transmit incident light of -40 to 80°C, and a matrix maintains the liquid crystal phase in a scattering condition in the absence of an applied field, is obtained by dispersing microdroplets of liquid crystal into a crosslinked polymeric matrix, and supercooling it at a temperature of not lower than a freezing point of liquid crystal.
