Abstract:
To provide a dispersion stabilizer for an aqueous emulsion composition which is also environmentally-friendly since the amount of components insoluble in an aqueous solution is small and the methanol content is reduced.SOLUTION: There is provided a dispersion stabilizer for an aqueous emulsion composition comprising a modified vinyl alcohol-based polymer (A) in which the content of a structural unit derived from a derivative (a1) of an ethylenic unsaturated dicarboxylic acid is 0.05 mol% or more and 10 mol% or less, the degree of saponification is 80.0 mol% or more and 99.9 mol% or less, the methanol content as measured by head-space gas chromatography is less than 3.0 mass% and the amount of components insoluble in an aqueous solution having a concentration of 5 mass% at 90°C is 0.1 ppm or more and less than 2000 ppm.SELECTED DRAWING: None
