Abstract:
To provide a rotation detector which can detect the direction of displacement of a detection target member if one of two light receiving elements is defective.SOLUTION: A first light reception element 521 outputs a first light reception signal R1 according to a light reception intensity. A second light reception element 522 outputs a second light reception signal R2 according to a light reception intensity. A third light reception element 523 outputs a third light reception signal R3 according to a light reception intensity. In a knob 3, a slit 34, which enables the first light reception element 521, the second light reception element 522, and the third light reception element 523 to receive light, and a plate 33, which makes the light reception impossible, are alternately arranged. A processor 53 detects the rotation of the knob 3 and failures in the first light reception element 521 and the second light reception element 522 on the basis of a first light reception signal R1 and a second light reception signal R2. If the processor 53 detects failures in one of the first light reception element 521 and the second light reception element 522, the processor detects the direction of rotation of the knob 3 on the basis of the first light reception signal R1 or the second light reception signal R2 and the third light reception signal R3 output from the other of the first light reception element 521 and the second light reception element 522.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
