To provide a display apparatus and method of driving the same that can stably control the operation of light-generating part and reduce power consumption.

A light-generating part generates a first light based on a first control signal. A first driving part outputs a panel-driving signal. A display panel receives the first light or a second light that is provided from outside to display an image, based on the panel-driving signal. A sensing part outputs a sensing signal based on the quantity of the second light. A second driving part compares a 1st critical level and a 2nd critical level defining a critical range with the sensing signal to output the first control signal according to the comparison result. Accordingly, the operation of the light-generating part can be controlled stably, to reduce the power consumption of the display device.
