To provide a display device that attains a function, comparable to a high-resolution display at a relatively low cost and capable of displaying images responding to natural movements of a human being, such that a viewer moves away from the screen, when viewing the whole and moves closer to the screen upon viewing details.
The display device projects a first image by a first light modulation means and superimposes a second image smaller than the first image by a second light modulating means, and is equipped with: a first image converting means for converting the resolution of an input image data in accordance with the resolution of the first light modulating means to obtain an image data for controlling the first light modulating means; and a second image converting means for extracting a data included in a range corresponding to the resolution of the second light modulating means from the above input image data, to obtain an image data for controlling the second light modulating means.
