PURPOSE: To perform color conversion processing corresponding to color characteristics of a display panel by providing a color converter which generates an R, a G, a B, and an I signal from an input signal and a means which changes characteristics of the color converter.
CONSTITUTION: A color characteristic discrimination signal 18 is outputted from a display panel unit 3, composed of, for example, three bits, and adaptive to a panel which has up to seven kind of color characteristics. The color characteristics of the display panel unit 3 are found by logic or measurement. The color converter 5 is composed of a ROM, and inputs, for example, the R, G, and B 4-bit signals and color characteristic discrimination signals 18 outputted by a CRT signal reception part 4, and outputs the R, G, B, and I(white) signals. The color converter 5 finds a group of R, G, B, and I signals which generates the closest color among a panel display color that the input signal group requires and colors which can be reproduced by the display panel unit 3 as a look-up data group and stores it in a ROM, and selects corresponding data by using the inputs R, G, and B and color characteristic discrimination signal 18 as an address.
