To provide a display divice, an image forming apparatus and a display method, capable of flexibly saving energy of a liquid crystal display according to functional operations.
The display device comprises: a liquid crystal display with a liquid crystal panel and a backlight for lighting the liquid crystal panel; a power supply section for supplying drive power to the backlight; a brightness adjustment section for adjusting the brightness of the backlight by adjusting the drive power supplied to the backlight; an instruction reception section for receiving execution instruction of various types of functional operations; a storage section for storing brightness patterns determined in advance for the various types of functional operations for each time zone, and the drive power supplied to the backlight corresponding to the brightness patterns; and a display control section for, when the instruction reception section receives the execution instruction, reading out of the storage section the brightness pattern corresponding to the combination of the functional operation indicated by the execution instruction and the time zone in which the execution instruction is received, and sending out to the brightness adjustment section an instruction for supplying the drive power determined by the read out brightness pattern to the backlight.
