To easily obtain freely set gamma characteristics by arbitrarily changing gamma characteristics in an arbitrary gradation range.
The adjustment of the gamma characteristics of image display is open to a user. In this case, the user uses a remote controller, or the like to display a gamma curve on a display device, sets an arbitrary minimum point (Min) 101 and an arbitrary maximum one (Max) 102 on the gamma curve, and sets an arbitrary adjustment point 103 on the gamma curve within the range. The output gradation value of the adjustment point 103 is moved vertically according to user's operation. At this time, three points, namely the minimum, adjustment, and maximum points 101, 103, 102, are subjected to curve interpolation to generate a new gamma curve. The conversion data of the generated gamma curve is used to convert and output the gradation of an input image signal for reflecting on a display screen.
