To provide a display device which uses an organic electroluminescence element of high picture quality by improving the holding characteristics.
The one pixel 1 in the organic EL display device using a simple matrix method consists of a transparent insulating substrate 2, an electrode 3 as one side of an additional capacitance, a transparent insulating film 4, an anode 5, a hole transfer layer 6, a light emission layer 7, an electron transport layer 8 and a cathode 9. The electrode 3 and the anode 5 oppose to each other through the transparent insulating film 4. Thereby, the transparent insulating film 4 functions as a dielectric film and the transparent insulating film 4, electrode 3 and anode 5 form a capacitor to constitute the additional capacitance 11. The organic EL element 10 and the additional capacitance 11 are connected in parallel to a driving power supply 12. The display panel of the organic EL display device is formed by arranging the pixels 1 having the above structure in a matrix.
