PURPOSE: To eliminate the need for a private stylus pen by providing a touch panel on a display face and detecting the deflection of a substrate due to the contact of an object with a desired position as a capacity change to decide the contact position.
CONSTITUTION: A liquid crystal display device consists of an X electrode line 18, a transparent substrate 16, a Y electrode line 22, a transparent electrode plate 20, and liquid crystal 24. A touch panel 12 consists of a transparent sub strate 26, a transparent substrate 30, and a transparent substrate 36 for touch arranged on them. X electrode lines 28 are formed on the lower face of the substrate 26, and Y electrode lines 32 are formed on the upper face of he sub strate 30. An overall electrode 38 is provided on the lower face of the substrate 36 for touch. Plural spacers 39 are arranged between substrates 26 and 36. The substrate 36 has the flexibility, and it is locally deformed to approach the substrate 26 when being pushed. A controller 42 detects the capacity change between the overall electrode 38 and X electrode lines 28 or Y electrode lines to decide the contact position with the substrate.
