A display device displays an image toward a view point of an observer, and includes a backlight unit that emits parallel light and a plurality of prisms arranged side by side in a horizontal direction. The display device further includes a dioptric system that deflects light from the backlight unit in the horizontal direction to be directed toward an observation direction, a light collection optical system that collects the light transmitted through the dioptric system into the view point of the observer, and a display panel that transmits the light from the light collection optical system to display an image. The plurality of prisms have a refractive angle larger in an area farther from an optical axis than in an area closer to the optical axis.
