To provide a reflective full-color display element which is a display element which has a simple member configuration and is capable of being driven with a low voltage and has high display contrast, and has a sufficiently high white display reflectivity and satisfactory color purity.

The display element has a color filter and a display part for black-and-white display. In the color filter, one pixel is formed by the combination of a plurality of sub-pixels, and the sub-pixels are selected from sub-pixels presenting three primary colors of BGR or YMC and substantially transparent sub-pixels, and the display part for performing black-and-white display includes an electrolyte containing silver or a compound with silver contained in a chemical structure, and a porous white scattering layer, and the driving operation of a counter electrode is performed so as to cause silver dissolution and deposition.
