PURPOSE: To draw a graphic on a display element with a finger, pen, etc., by pressing the display element which has an electrolyte and a conductive high polymer film laminated between a couple of electrodes and discoloring the high polymer film.
CONSTITUTION: The conductive high polymer film 2 is formed on the surface of conductive glass 1 and a counter electrode 4 is formed on a flexible electrode base material 10 at the opposite position; and air 11 and the solid-state electrolyte 12 are enclosed in an area formed by an insulating spacer. When the electrode base material 10 is pressed from above with a finger while a voltage is applied from a battery 8, the electrode 4 contacts the electrolyte 12 and a dopant moves to the high polymer film 2 to color the high polymer film. Thus, a graphic is drawn on the display element with the finger, pen, etc., and only the pressed part colors, so the need for a complex driving circuit is eliminated to simplify the structure.
