PURPOSE: To make it easy to read sensuously distictive display for ante meridiem and post meridiem, by forming display bands along the right half circle and the left half circle of the display part and by selecting this display part to perform distinctive display for ante meridiem and post meridiem.

CONSTITUTION: The discriminating circuit for ante meridiem and post meridiem receives the output of the counter, which counts digits of hours, to discriminate ante meridiem and post meridiem from each other. The potential selecting circuit switches the potential, which is given from the potential selecting circuit, on a basis of this discrimination output to output it to output terminals m1 and m2. Meanwhile, right three of common electrodes 30d...30d of display part 30 divided into six are connected to terminal m1 commonly, and left three are connected to terminal m2 commonly. Consequently, the display band corresponding to right three electrodes 30d is lit in the ante meridiem, and the display band corresponding to left three electrodes 30d is lit in the post meridiem. As a result, distinctive display for ante meridiem and post meridiem catches eyes of the user naturally when the user sees the time display, so that this distinctive display can be easy to see sensuously.
