PURPOSE: To calculate the remaining time of a tape up to the current time by means of a remainder calculating part when a tape cassette is loaded, to calculate the difference between the remaining time of the tape and a video recording time by a calculation part, to display the difference, to change a background color and to warn the small amount or the shortage of the remaining time for video recording.
CONSTITUTION: When a tape cassette is loaded into a VTR main body, a remainder calculating part 2 calculates the remaining time of the tape in the current time in a standard and triple modes. The remaining time of the tape in the standard mode is displayed on a display part 13 through a display control part 3, the remainig time data of the tape in the standard and the triple modes are subjected to a prescribed signal processing in a controlling part 5 for screen display, displayed on a display device 11 and supplied to a comparing part 8. Then, when the number channels, video recording mode, the starting and the ending times of video recording to be reserved for video recording are inputted, the data are sent to the display device 11 through the control part 5 so as to display and the total video recording time is calculated in a calculation part 4. On the other hand, in a changeover part 9 for background color, the background color is set to be blue when the remaining time is longer than ten minutes, yellow below ten minutes and red below zero minute.
